The 2017 Relay for Life of Oktibbeha County is taking place Friday evening at the Mississippi Horse Park's indoor arena, and the event is set to begin at 5 p.m. rain or shine.

This year's theme — "Heroes of Hope: Fighting for a World Without Cancer" — encourages others that anyone can be a hero in the fight against cancer.

The goal of this year's Relay for Life of Oktibbeha County is to raise $100,000 at the local level to donate to the American Cancer Society. The money will go to the ACS's research, education, advocacy and patient assistance programs.

During the event, teams will have campsites set up around the track with a variety of fundraisers, from food sales to raffles. Each team will continuously have someone walking the track, symbolizing the fight against cancer.

The event will feature games, food, music and live entertainment but the main focus will be to recognize people who have battled cancer and their caretakers.
